Serenade, caricature, or peanuts: Celebrating Valentine's Day during the pandemic
Imagine surprising your loved one with a personalized – and virtual – serenade on Valentine’s Day. Or receiving an exclusive caricature of the couple. These are just a few of the options available for married couples, partners, significant others, dating couples, admirers, lovers, and the like to celebrate amid the social isolation measures implemented to control the coronavirus. For fans of traditional June festivals, particularly popular in the Northeast of Brazil, there are kits with typical snacks, drinks, and treats to help alleviate the longing for the festive atmosphere – all conveniently delivered without leaving home.
Choosing, purchasing, and delivering a Valentine’s Day gift this Friday, June 12, comes with an extra challenge this year due to the social distancing measures brought on by Covid-19. The same goes for the June festivities, which culminate on São João (Saint John’s Day) on June 23 but also feature Santo Antônio (Saint Anthony) on June 13 and São Pedro (Saint Peter) on June 29. In all cases, delivery services have become a convenient option for customers and a lifeline for businesses and entrepreneurs whose in-person sales have suffered in recent months.
With the pandemic significantly impacting the events industry – from live music in bars to wedding and graduation parties – the duo Duet Paty & Leo turned to virtual platforms, offering live rehearsals and performances and creating a unique product: Personalized Serenades. Customers select a song, write a dedication, and the duo produces a professional clip to be delivered on the recipient’s preferred virtual platform.“While Leo plays a musical backdrop on the guitar, I read your dedication and then perform the chosen song in a voice-and-guitar format,” explains Patricia Fernandes, also known as Paty. The serenade costs R$179.90, and the final file is sent via WhatsApp, a private YouTube link (accessible only to those with the link), and an email containing the video and professional audio files, which can be saved.
The duo can be contacted via Instagram and Facebook at @duetpatyleo or by email at duetpatyleo@gmail.com. For more information, visit www.youtube.com/PatyFernandes or www.patyfernandes.com/duetpatyleo.
